What is an ISBN?

An ISBN is an International Standard Book Number that is assigned to all books published in the United States. An ISBN is essentially a product identifier used by publishers, booksellers, libraries, Internet retailers, and other supply chain participants for ordering, listing, sales records, and stock control purposes.

ISBN for Paperback (KDP)

KDP can provide you with a free ISBN to publish your paperback. This free ISBN can only be used in KDP for distribution to Amazon and its distribution partners. It cannot be used with any other publisher or self-publishing service.

ISBN for eBooks (KDP)

You do not require an ISBN to publish an eBook with KDP. Once your content is published in KDP, Amazon will assign a 10-digit ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number), which is unique to an eBook.

To publish through other retailers/publishers, you can buy your own ISBN/barcode from “Bowker” (USA/Australia) or through your local ISBN agency.

Please briefly describe your editing process.
All our editing services include one round of regular editorial service. Once we receive the manuscript in MS Word format from the author, we edit the manuscript according to the service level requested. The edits are tracked and indicate the editor’s interventions. The edited manuscript is sent back to the author for review. At this stage, the author can accept or reject the editor’s interventions and address all manuscript-related queries raised by the editor.

What is the difference between copyediting and proofreading?

The copy editor works on the MS Word manuscript prepared by the author. Regular copyediting includes checking the text for grammatical accuracy, spelling, style, syntax, and punctuation issues and aligning the manuscript to our house style unless a preferred style is communicated by the author. If the copy editor has to rewrite or rephrase sentences, improve word choices, reorganize the presented content, fix problems with transitions, wordiness, jargon usage, etc, the service level of the manuscript will be upgraded to line editing.

After the manuscript is formatted or paginated, it is sent to a proofreader for checking typographical errors. The proofreader works with a facsimile of the finished product (PDF), or a proof (hence, the term “proofreading”). Proofreaders also check to see if any basic grammatical errors or inconsistencies remain in the manuscript and if any conversion issues have occurred during the formatting/typesetting process. The proofreading process entails a final review before the material is considered ready for publication.
